Mount Rainier Quilt Piece

I went to a quilt show in Portland with my friend Krisha and was totally inspired. I decided I wanted to try and create Mount Rainier on fabric. I printed a picture of the mountain and outlined the dark area I wanted in blue. I traced it on interfacing and ironed it onto my blue. Tracing, cutting and placing took about 3 episodes of Beverly Hills 90210 on DVD. It came out wonderfully! I ironed it on and then sewed around it.

For the grassy area, I grouped the fabric and hand-sewed some glass beads as wildflowers. The trees were just sloppily created and sewn on. I wanted the focus of this piece to be the mountain. I have a few other plans for another mountain piece. I'd like to do a crazy color one, kind of abstract and I'd also like to do another with natural colors and create beautiful trees and play with textures and beads. This was just a beginning project. I'm completely happy with it!

Finished product is about 13"h x 24"w.
